Today Thursday 30th April, Strathyre Village should have been buzzing with hundreds of schoolchildren from many schools across Stirlingshire taking part in the annual Mini-Stuc Hill race. Due to the dreaded Corona Virus - this fun event clearly had to be cancelled.
On Saturday 2nd May we will also miss the hundreds of runners and spectators that would normally take part in the Annual Stuc A Chroin Hill race, also cancelled along with its smaller sister in May - the Ben Sheann Hill race - due to Covid-19.
This Summer, We will miss the thousands that would have attended the Strathyre Music Festival, the thousands that will be missing from Balquhidder's Mhor Festival and the thousands that will be missing at the Lochearnhead Shears and The Lochearnhead Highland Games.
Our Cafe's, Pubs, Hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, Camp sites and Self catering accommodation outlets will be missing the hundreds of guests they would normally see each week.
This is extremely hard for these event organisers, business owners and hurts the rural economy immensely.
However, it is absolutely necessary for very important reasons of survival, that we observe the lockdown conditions in force. The missing people can eventually return and will be very warmly welcomed when the green light comes back on and the dreaded Virus is defeated.
Heartbreaking as the situation is, we remember there are sadly thousands of others missing their loved ones , some, cruelly taken by Covid-19 and we must remember them along with our heroic NHS, Medical, Carers, and support staff and thousands of others engaged in the fight against the Virus. Locally, we remember the valiant efforts of friends and neighbours looking out for each other, with offers of help and message deliveries through trips to shops or local shop supplies.
The big applause continues at 8pm on the doorstep every Thursday night.
Stay safe, stay at home and don't hold back in seeking help if you, your family or business needs it. There is great free support available on-line or on the end of the phone let us know if we can help.
