Community Resilience and Curriculum for Excellence
Visit website
What is this?
Due to Scotland’s changing climate, communities across Scotland are becoming increasingly affected by extreme weather events and flooding.
When emergencies strike, a host of highly-trained individuals work around the clock to prepare and protect our communities.
However, they will not always be able to help everyone immediately. You may find yourself having to cope alone with your family and neighbours for some time.
Community resilience is about communities and individuals using their collective resources and skills to help themselves prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.
Strathyre has an
Emergency Response Team (SERT) to manage any major emergency.

Balquhidder Community Broadband
Visit website
Introduction by Richard Harris:
The lack of effective broadband provision in the local area has been an issue since early Celtic times: engravings on local standing stones indicate regular sacrifices of proto-human network executives to propitiate the gods of connectivity. Little has changed since and multiple attempts have been since made to improve the state of local communications. Given just how critical effective broadband is to economic and social development and the sustainability of rural communities, it may be time to reintroduce human sacrifice…
The report attached to this post outlines the state of broadband provision in Balquhidder and the level of demand for services. It was originally written in 2007 and includes a comprehensive local survey, carried out by Balquhidder resident Catriona Oldham, as well as a summary of the geographical and infrastructure issues specific to the area. That was ahead of the then Scotgov project which involved BT being given hundreds of millions of pounds in public money to do, apparently, damn all. It may now be time to reintroduce those old Celtic rituals.

Strathyre Primary School
Visit website
Our new school values are teamwork, honesty, respect, confidence and an eagerness to learn.
Strathyre Primary School is a small, rural school in beautiful environs. It was built in 1960 to replace a very old school building, which was the original school. A standing stone which is believed to be a lintel or cornerstone, sits in the playground and is the only remaining evidence of the old school.
We have 41 children at present. Our school catchment area encompasses the three communities of Strathyre, Balquhidder and Lochearnhead.
Our vision for the children at Strathyre Primary School is to provide opportunities to enable them to be healthy, happy, confident, and to achieve their full potential in a safe and caring environment. I believe that everyone in the school community has a role to play in this vision, and look forward to building on partnerships with parents, the local community and local businesses as well as other agencies that help to support and enrich our children’s education.
We aim to keep the whole school community informed about all the amazing work we do. Throughout each session we will endeavour to share information from the classroom, whole school activities, curriculum developments and Parent Partnership activities.
I look forward to working in partnership with you to give your child a very enjoyable primary school experience.

Lochearnhead Sheers Competition 27-28 June 2020
The Lochearn Shears ( The Scottish Blackface Shearing Championships) are on the 27th and 28th June 2020
Lochearnhead Shears was established in 1993, and over the years it has become one of the larger sheep shearing competitions in the United Kingdom. Sheep shearers from all over the World compete to take home the “Scottish Blackface Shearing Champion” title. Blackface sheep are predominant in this area and require extra skills from the competitors to overcome their flighty nature and the coarser wool of this mountain breed.
